Introduction and History

Hello! my is Elizabeth Alderson I have been in this profession since 2004 and had worked for Strawberry Patch Children’s Centre since 2006. Now, after taking over the company at the North Otter Elementary location and renaming it “The Patch Kids Place Inc.,” which is built to provide important and quality care for children age range from thirty months years old to school age children finishing grade seven. We do our best to accommodate North Otter families with the quality care they deserve.

Our Philosophy

We believe that in the right environment a child’s natural curiosity and creativity leads to endless opportunities in gaining experience in knowledge and develop a love of learning through play. We provide that environment at The Patch Kids Place Inc. by making it a safe and nurturing place where your child will be encouraged to build, pretend, and create their way to exciting discoveries about the world around them.
At The Patch Kids Place Inc. each child will have a chance to grow socially, physically, intellectually cognitively, emotionally. Each child will have loads of learning opportunities adaption to fit his or her age, developmental stage, and learning style. In addition we provide your child with the care and education that will help them become happy, healthy lifelong learners.

Guidance And Discipline Policy

Every adult who cares for children has a responsibility to guide, correct, and socialize children toward appropriate behaviours. These adult actions often are called child guidance and discipline. Positive guidance and discipline are crucial because they promote children's self-control, teach children responsibility, and help children make thoughtful choices. The more effective caregivers are at encouraging appropriate child behaviours, the less time and effort adults will spend correcting children's misbehaviors.
Active guidance and discipline focus on the development of the child. They also preserve the child's self-esteem. Actions that insult or criticize are likely to cause children to view their caregivers negatively, which can prevent learning and can teach the child to be unkind to others. However, actions that acknowledge the child’s efforts and progress, no matter how slow or small, are likely to encourage healthy development. Teaching children self-discipline is a demanding skill. It requires patience, thoughtful attention, cooperation, and a good understanding of the child. The Patch Kids Place Inc. teachers will use only positive guidance techniques.

Before and After School
Program

Our Before and After school program provides quality childcare for children ages 5 to 12 years old.
Hours Of Operation
Monday through Friday 7:00 am. - 5:30 pm.

Our before and after school Program maintain  a flexibility to suit the children’s interests and what the day brings through play.

Your child will have a change to unwind after school with a variety of fun activities, in all inside and outside activities, or even find a quiet area to read a book or play games with a friend.

Before and after school programs allow more social time and more engagement with new and more people. This promotes cooperation, support, and respect for others. Kids in these programs are more likely to be included and feel like they're part of a group.

Daycare Program
During School Hours

Daycare During school hours program provides quality childcare for children ages 2.5 year olds to 5 year olds.
Hours Of Operation
Monday through Friday 8:40 am. - 1:55 pm.

Our curriculum for Daycare Program During School Hours follows the teachers lead and child centered approach. This means we teach planned themes and themes based on the interests we observe among the children. Each day we have a group time where the children are exposed to early numeracy, early literacy, and other kindergarten readiness skills to help in preparing children for kindergarten.
Children will also have the choice to participate in a daily planned art/craft activity as well. We believe that arts and crafts are all about the process not the product. When we are planning activities, we assess why we are planning this activity and what the children will learn, develop, or practice while engaging in the activity.

Director/Owner/Substitute
Elizabeth Alderson

Our Team

Hello!  My name is Elizabeth but everyone calls me Liz.  I was born in Vancouver and moved to Portugal when I was 8 years old.  I returned to Canada in 1991.  Yes!  I do speak fluent Portuguese.
I’m an Early Childhood Educator and have always loved being around children.  When I returned from Portugal I had a daytime job, but I knew it wasn’t the career I wanted.  Babysitting always made me happy, my cousins and family friends would always ask if I could take care of their children.  Over the years I would think about it a lot and that’s when I became an Early Childhood Educator.
I have been working as an Early Childhood Educator since 2004.  I have worked in preschool settings, assisted Montessori preschools and daycares.
I did work for Strawberry Patch Children's Centre for almost 16 years, and I love what I do.  It makes me happy and fulfills my heart knowing that at the end of the day I have cared, loved and nurtured these children and helped out their families doing what I consider is one of the most important jobs in the world. In my spare time I like to read, do scrapbooking and watch movies.

Lead Teacher Daycare Program
Debbie Bjorknas

Hi! I'm Debbie, I have been an Early Childhood Educator for 25 + years. I'm passionate about providing the best care I can to all the children at the centre, I would like to think of them as my own.  I am a mother of 2 adult children, and lived in the North Otter area for 35 years.
My hobbies include reading, camping with my husband. I am Diana Gabaldon fan and love a hot black coffee.

Lead Teacher After School Program
Krystal Edgar

Hi! I'm Krystal, I have been an early childhood educator for nearly six years. I have always had a passion for being a leader and helping people, it was not surprising to anyone that I ended up becoming an educator.  My teachers growing up inspired me in such a positive way that I really wanted each child to experience that as well, and to feel as important and safe as I did in school. This career brings me so much joy and fulfillment I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

In my spare time I like to read, go for walks with coffee in hand. I'm a big fan of Harry Potter, and white chocolate mochas.

ECE Assistant Daycare and After School Program
Alyscia Teljeur

I'm new to the Early Childhood Education, but absolutely love it! In High School I had an Auntie who owned a daycare and I always loved going there, and help.  I am a mother of two daughters ( Thirteen and Seven years old).  However I have a natural love for being around children.  My childhood was full of time spent around my own younger siblings, and I was very eager to start babysitting at the age of Twelve years old.  Before becoming a mom, I started nannying and continued being one until I had my first child.  Now I am on my way in to getting my Early Childhood Educator Diploma I'm really excited.

in my spare time I like to ready, draw, run when the weather allows. I love black coffee and I'm a big fan of the TV sitcom Friends. I'm very happy to be working with children.
